That Time Frank Sinatra Secretly Reunited Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin

It was maybe one of the greatest reunions in Hollywood history.

After an extremely bitter breakup and not speaking to one another for decades, comic duo Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin were reunited in 1976 on live TV — a moment secretly crafted by their mutual pal, Frank Sinatra.

Lewis, who died Sunday at the age of 91, had a priceless reaction when his old friend and former partner came out to greet him with a hug and kiss during Lewis’ annual Labor Day telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

“You son of a bitch,” Lewis can be overheard saying to Sinatra in a clip of the moment. “Should have been a Jew that did it,” he jokingly added.

“You know, it seems like we haven’t seen each other for 20 years,” Martin says as the two fall right back into funnymen mode. Lewis’ response: “Well, you know, there was all those rumors about our breaking up — and then when I started the show and you weren’t here, I believed it.”

Sinatra then walks in close and tells the two he can show them to their room.

The comic duo met in 1945 and did their act for 10 years on radio, TV and in film.

After a decade of working together in which they reached great heights, the story goes they began to clash and ultimately resent one another. That is until Ol’ Blue Eyes made them see the light.

Lewis said in later interviews the pair remained very close afterward until Martin’s death in 1995.
